Subjective Objective. Trocadero Artspace. 2018

This exhibition  presents Photographs and objects found during a recent 10 week artist residency in Reykjavik, Iceland (SIM). Objects of cultural detritus (plastics and other found litter) along side ‘natural’ objects such as rocks and bones, feathers and branches.  Half of the photography use the familiar object narrative format of history museums, while an opposing group playfully present the same objects as subjects. though use of assemblage / object collage,. These constructed subjects also reference narratives and characters in Proto-Germanic (Icelandic/Norse) mythology that question the prevailing perspectives of time, space and the nature of being. By creating an opposition between the ‘subjectified’ and ‘objectified’ the work alludes to broader narratives in ecological space while suggesting contemporary stories of place.
