Study For an Ecological Portrait of the Tarengo Leek Orchid 2011
Finalist: M16 Drawing Prize. Canberra.
Lead on cotton paper
23 x 57cm
The Tarengo leek orchid is listed Federally as Critically Endangered with only two small stands and one larger stand around the Canberra region remaining. This work is a study for an ecological portrait of the orchid, an initial investigation into the form and character of the species, and a departure point into an exploration of the ecological systems of interconnectedness which this unassuming, rare and beautiful orchid needs for its continued survival. The study was produced with in kind assistance from the entomology department at Melbourne Museum.
