Feasting Vignettes: “The Resistance of Memory”.
Melbourne Food and Wine Festival / Platform Underground Garden, Melbourne.
Spring 2010.
Under the auspice of the Platform Artist Group’s Underground Garden Project, The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival commissioned and sponsored this public artwork to engage with the discourse of food and urban spaces as part of their festival program. The time based public artwork presented antique and vintage furniture assemblages containing jar preserved gleaned fruit and housing a water reticulation system. Supported by the assemblage, the primarily closed system fostered the growth of several annual and perennial herbs and native mosses over the course of the season. Remaining sensitive to the National heritage recessed art deco vatrine context of the public space, “The Resistance of Memory” focused on he concepts of Urban food and food security through a conceptual, aesthetic and historical lens.
