Assemblage Theory is an ongoing program of interventions within public space. An event based collaboration of artists, writers, performers and musicians presenting an ephemeral response to place. It seeks to operate, not within, but parallel to the systems and hierarchies of the existing art institutions and the formal regulation of space.
The ontological philosophy of the same name, Assemblage Theory, ‘provides a bottom-up framework for analysing social complexity by emphasising fluidity, exchangeability, and multiple functionalities.’ While within the express context of Art, The Assemblage is ‘work produced by the incorporation of everyday objects into the composition. With each non-art object acquiring aesthetic or symbolic meanings within the context of the whole work, while retaining something of its original identity.’ Assemblage Theory, takes inspiration from possible intersections and synthesis of these concepts as the fluid departure point for an aesthetic exploration of ecological space and social place in the Post-Covid era
‘Praxis; Circling the Compass’, is the pioneering edition of this project. With overt reference to both radial reflections on land and the restrictions of movement and interaction during COVID-19 lockdowns, and its occult and esoteric connotations; the exhibition will present the responses of several artists, writers and performers to these ideas within a location in Royal Park in Melbourne during the Full Moon Eclipse form 6pm November 28th 2020.
Location map will be provided @assemblagetheory via instagram story on November 27th 2020.
